1. What is acupuncture? The intent of Acupuncture therapy is to promote health and alleviate pain and suffering. The perspective from which an acupuncturist views health and sickness hinges on concepts of "vital energy" or Qi. Desease manifests and does not heal when this vital energy is depleted or does not flow freely along the pathways or "meridians". The role of the Acunpuncturist is to assess the condition of the patient from the perspective of Oriental Medicine and determine the level of balance or imbalance of Qi along the meridians. The acpuncturist will ask a series of questions and feel the pulses of both wrists to determine which meridians are out of balance. Then, through the stimulation of specific "acupoints" along the meridians with fine, slender, single use, sterile needles, the smooth flow of vital energy is restored in the meridians allowing the body to heal itself.
Why use Acupuncture? In addition to being effective for many acute and chronic common illnesses, Oriental Medicine has much to offer those who wish to raise the quality of health and vitality. Practitioners of Oriental Medicine operate with prevention in mind, attempting to correct small energetic imbalances before they become big health problems.
